Possible research direction:
- Universal Intermediate Format of Compressed Video
- Using XML to design such format
- Issue: Flexibility
- This format should be capable of holding decoded
frame/GOP(scene)/Video information in different scales,
such as header only, DCT domain data, and fully-decoded data.
- This format should be capable of holding data of different coding
standards: MPEG-X, and H.26X. Preservation for new coding standards is suggested.
- Practical System: an "universal transcoder" to demostrate the power of
universal intermediate format.
- Semantic Transcoding
- Using attention model to:
- perform spatial resolution downscaling (image cropping, not
downsampling). Application domain: videos on hand-held devices.
- perform transcoding of non-scalable videos to scalable videos.
- Issue: Robustness. If the system performs good for some videos, it
cannot be very poor for other videos.
- MPEG-1,2 to MPEG-4 AVC transcoding
- Anything regarding to AVC is hot.
- Issue: Efficiency. How to map codnig modes of input and output format?
