Toastmasters: Self-Introduction (10/25)
Dear Toastmaster members, good evening,
As a new member of the CECI Toastmaster club, I know many of you may have some questions about me: Who's Chris? Who's that guy? Where does he come from? What's he doing for his job? So my first ice-breaking speech will focus on introducing myself. Such that you can know more about me and maybe we can have more chance to talk with each other during every meeting's breaking time. My speech will be divided into three parts, first I'll introduce myself briefly, and then talking about my job; finally I'll share with you why I decide to join the Toastmaster club.
I know you may ask, "Do you live in Taipei?" "Yes." "Are you a Taipei man?" "Not exactly." Actually I was grown up in Keelung but I lived in Taipei for nearly ten years. I rent a house and moved to Taipei since I entered the senior high school. After that, from college to graduate school, including my career life, I'll still stay in Taipei. So I think I should be a half Taipei man.
You may also ask, "What do you like?" "What's your hobby?" Well, like most people, I enjoy traveling; I like photography. I think take with my camera and have a nice trip is the best way to relief myself, to rescue me from the pressure of work. My job is a computer programmer, and I stay with computers all day long. But I do not play video games or computer games. It sounds a little strange but I just have no favor about that. For something special, I like writings. I have my blog and I keep blogging. Sometimes I write essays to record my life. But I write in Chinese not in English, because my English is not good enough to express my true feelings. One day I wish I could write a novel by myself. Creating a novel is just like creating a world, and it's so amazing.
I think writing a computer program is also amazing. Like writing novel, you're still creating a world. You can arrange everything and express your creativity without any limitation. That's also the reason why I decide to major in computer science during college and still study computer science in graduate school. And of course, it can make money. As present I'm a programmer in CyberLink Crop. My job is to write computer software to help people utilize computers more easily and bring the new multimedia technologies to enrich people's life, such as the well known MP3, DVD, or photo applications.
Finally, I would like to talk about why I'm here to join the Toastmaster club. In my company, there was Toastmaster club, a corporate club. Actually the forming of our club can be thought as company policy; our boss hopes his employees can have more change to practice English. But unfortunately, our club is dismissed because of lacking participants; everyone is too busy. It's a pity because I think not only for practicing English. Even you speak Chinese, you do not have the chance to stand in front of so many people and talk about what you thought, share your experiences. So after a few months, I find out that Toastmaster club's website and contact Joanne Wu to join CECI Toastmaster club. And this is my first ice-breaking speech here; I'm going to end my speech. Thank you, dear Toastmasters.
