Facial Animation in MPEG-4
Abstract
The MPEG-4 standard specifies the part of Synthetic and Natural Hybrid
Coding. In particular, definition and animation of human faces and bodies
are also defined. For human faces, the Facial Definition Parameters (FDPs)
and the Facial Animation Parameters (FAPs) are defined for representation
and animation on any facial model. In this research, an efficient approach
to synthesize realistic facial expressions from photographs and FAPs on a
2 1/2-D head model is presented. Also, combinations of expression FAPs
with different expression textures provide the ability to synthesize more
facial expressions. Integrating the approach into a deformed head model
with viseme FAPs, a personalized talking head with texture mapping is also
available.
